Some More Useful Emacs Commands
Note: in following, "C-x" means "control-x", i.e., you hold down the "Control" key while typing 'x'. "M-x" similarly means "meta-x", which you get by holding down the "Alt" key while typing 'x'.- C-k: kill from cursor to end of line
- 2nd Ctrl-k: kills newline
- 3rd thru n-th Ctrl-k: keeps killing, adding to cut buffer
- C-y: "yanks" the contents of the cut buffer into the current position
- C-_ or C-/: Undo: sequentially undoes the previous action; can be chained to undo multiple actions, even including previous undo's!
- C-x 3: Split the screen vertically.
- C-x 2: Split the screen horizontally
- C-x o: Move between windows.
- M-x shell: Open a terminal in the current window.
- C-t: Transpose two characters.
- M-t: Transpose two words.
