X under Cygwin

Installed the X.org X-server on Cygwin. And also did some investigation on how to set the font in the xterm window. A page I found on Google suggested to run xfontsel to find out all the fonts the X server supports. From there on it's just a matter of choosing the correct family, size, style etc. Another problem I was facing while using cygwin was that I couldn't run the Windows telnet and ftp commands. I downloaded and installed the Cygwin versions of these utilities, and now everything works fine and dandy!

Busy busy busy...

Work started right when I came into office. Had to debug some PI stuff for baDbaDi. It took much of the morning hours. Now after lunch I have to look into the esc I worked on a couple of weeks ago, something to do about policies.

Not listening to common sense

Yesterday I sprained my neck working out too hard at the gym. I should be taking it easy today, but I know I'm not going to take that piece of advice. When it comes to working out, I sometimes overdo it. Yesterday, even after I'd sprained the neck, I still went to play a game of TT!

Stealing headphones again

GT is on leave, so I borrowed his headphones. Felt good listening to Indian Ocean after a long time, particularly Kaun. Also listened to some songs from their new album Jhini.

Now for the gym

Checked in the fix into P4. Now for the gym after a gap of a week.

Daaru party

Nice treat we got from GT and DP on the occassion of their birthdays. Well, actually, DP's was last week, and GT's is tomorrow. But they threw their combined parties last night at Symphony. The drinks started off with GT and DP ordering a "Screwdriver", MK settling for a Kingfisher, and me ordering a small Signature and soda. GT gave up after his drink, while DP ordered vodka. I had 3 small and 1 large Signatures in total, DP had 3 small vodkas in addition to his Screwdriver, and MK had 3 large vodkas with his beer. All in all, quite a lot of alcohol consumed.

Considering the way I've been getting tummy upsets recently, I ate less. I had only the starter items - Veg Crispie and Chicken Tandoor. Later the "dukkars" ordered 2 plates of biryani out of which I had a chew.

Relief after a busy period

Starting from about 2:00 PM yesterday till 3:30 PM today, I've been extremely busy working on the esc/bug assigned to me. Most of the time was spent downloading 611 packages and installing them. Yesterday I was trying to debug the AAA in a very distributed way - with the AM and DS being on Baabu Mohsay's machine, and the AAA and WG on mine. Since I had to repeatedly start/stop the DS, I had to pester Baabu Mohsay and it was taking a hell of a lot of time. So today I decided to install a 611 system on my own machine. Of course, that meant that I had to download the packages. I could have made a debug build off the source code, but my VC6 is pretty flaky and the build could have involved multiple restarts. So that's the way it was.

Skipping gym :-(

It's 8:10 PM, and I've just finished typing a mail spelling out all the changes that need to be done for the bug assigned to me. It takes a lot of groundwork and patience to type a mail to convey a point lucidly and with correct grammar to boot. I had discussions with Baabu Moshay, Dukhi and Rishi Kapoor before I felt confident of typing it out, then I had Baabu Moshay review it, then made corrections and finally sent it. I have to skip gym as a result of all this. Sad.

Temporary change in task

At 2:45 Phaawdya comes up and says that I would have to put in a fix for a bug that Baabu Moshay was working on. He said the fix had been targeted for 25 or 26 November, and so I had 3-4 days. Phaawdya falteringly updated me on the bug, something which I already had some knowledge since Baabu Moshay had talked about it during lunch last week. Baabu Moshay then went into the nitty-gritty and told me where exactly to put in the fix. Talk about spoon-feeding.

Code sync for time pass

I'm syncing the 611 codebase to start investigating the bug mentioned above. Now that is going to take some time to complete.

Blog update inertia

I spent the whole weekend playing AoE, FIFA and football. Too lazy to update the ThoughtLog. Played football on both days - Saturday with Nevis junta and Sunday with Univ United. On Saturday, went out for lunch at Saraja with Nejo, Ballya and Mukta. We repeatedly considered making plans for a movie, but they were always shelved because it was impossible to get tickets for a weekend show. After lunch, we decided to pick up a DVD and watch it at Mukta's place later that night. Later that evening, I decided not to go. Sunday Ballya said nothing happened anyway because Nejo didn't phone to confirm. Sunday morning was the regular Univ United game and the Dew session later. More AoE followed. Anil Mama and Sharayu Mami came in the afternoon from Mumbai. They stayed overnight and left very early today morning. Today I start work on the ACL esc that had cropped up a few weeks back. I'll probably have to make the changes in several branches of the code. It's going to be a lot of work.
